The Houston Edit | Kickoff to Summer in Houston

Houston, we have Summer

June in Houston means summer-mode is officially switched ON. Big events are going on all around town including Pride Month, the FIFA World Cup, art festivals etc. The kids are out of school and a there is a warm, yet still-active real estate market with rising inventory to go with the rising temperatures!

I recently read an article citing Consumer Reports reporting Houston, Texas as home to the second highest concentration of new home developments in the United States (Dallas is now number 1). This delegation is sourced by new residential building permits issued in the first two months of 2026 alone along with new home sales reported. Of course, this is not in Houston-proper. These permits and home sales were mostly concentrated in the outskirts of town (Pasadena, The Woodlands. etc.), where new developments are popping up seemingly by the day. Houston is quite literally busting at the seams! I am also seeing several highrises going up where old shopping centers once stood, which is only adding to the traffic nightmare we deal with daily throughout the city. With a public transit system that is lackluster to say the least, what do you think this means for Houston in the next five years?

Summer-proofing your Home

One of the biggest issues I see during summer showings is neglected HVAC maintenance. A simple tune-up can save homeowners thousands in emergency repairs. Just because a house has an AC system that keeps it frigid during summertime, doesn't mean it's functioning properly. I suggest always having a licensed HVAC technician out to your house to service the system in the Spring and in the Fall to prepare for the upcoming weather months. If you need a referral for a specialist for any of the items listed below, I have quite the rolodex! Just let me know. I would love to hear from you!

Here are some other tips for maintaining your home in the summer:

No June Gloom in Houston!

June 2026 is going to be a fantastic month for our great city. Whether going to World Cup games at NRG (aka Houston Stadium), watching them at sports bars around town, or avoiding the mania completely, you have tons of options to explore this month.

FIFA World Cup 2026 | June 11-July 19

This month, 48 teams from all over the world will travel to Houston and ten other US cities (and three in Mexico and two in Canada). This is actually the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations! The championship will actually be played in New Jersey on July 14th. East Downtown (EaDo) hosts a 39-day "Football Fiesta Houston" with big screens, music, and food. Information can be found here. For more information about the Houston-area matches, schedule, and family-friendly events, visit the FIFA World Cup page here. Tickets are still available here.

Lawndale Art Center's The Big Show | June 12 - August 15

The Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Texas, hosts The Big Show, an annual juried exhibition for artists within a 100-mile radius, with the 2026 edition on view through August 15, 2026. This has been a cornerstone event for emerging artists since the 1980s! Get more information here.

Nate Bargatze | June 18-19

If you haven't seen Nate Bargatze's stand up specials, you are definitely missing out. He is a "clean" comedian (think: Steve Martin - no cursewords) with deadpan delivery that is sure to leave you in stitches. Don't believe me? Check out his specials on Netflix and Amazon Prime. He is playing at the Toyota Center two nights, June 18 and 19 at 7pm. There are still tickets available and you can snag them here.

Final Note

There is a lot of inventory on the market right now. Of course, there are the "perfect homes" in "perfect neighborhoods" that almost always get snatched up within days, but there are a lot of really great houses available all over the Houston area. In May, my brokerage has closed dozens of homes. Interest rates have been slowly creeping back toward 7% which causes pause for buyers who locked in rates on their current homes a few years ago around 3%, but... life still happens. People divorce. They have more kids, retire, downsize, and that is what keeps the residential real estate market going, especially as we approach the slower months of the year. If you would like a free home evaluation, please contact me. I love connecting and would be glad to give you an idea of your home's value. Enjoy your June! Back next month!
